ENROLLMENT PROCESS

Students may enroll at Kansas City Sudbury School any time during the school year, subject to availability.

We invite you to get familiar with the enrollment process. If you are interested in enrolling your child, please use the form below to contact us. Once we are ready to open, we will get in touch with you.

You will find the enrollment process below.

STEP 1: Learn about Our Model

Sudbury schools are surprisingly different from most other public and private schools.

Read, watch or listen to some of the abundant information on the model.

Our website and especially our FAQ and Blog & Resources page are excellent places to get started. We also have a Facebook Group filled with excellent articles and resources on the model.

If you would still like to learn more after looking through our site, please contact us and we can send you some additional links, and answer preliminary questions.

STEP 2: Let’s Get to Know Each Other

When you are ready to move forward, call or contact us to schedule an Enrollment Interview.

The interview is a chance for us to get to know you and your family, and for you to get to know us and ask us questions about the school. The enrollment interview is not a test or a means of selecting certain kinds of students. It is a frank discussion during which all parties can make sure that Kansas City Sudbury School is a good fit for the student and the family.

There is no fee for this visit, and it creates no obligation to pursue enrollment. We find that it’s helpful to most students for all involved parents and/or guardians (even if non-custodial) to attend an interview prior to enrollment, whether together or in separate meetings.

Once we are ready to open, as part of the enrollment interview, you will get a tour of our school during school hours so that you can see the Sudbury model in action. Interviews typically last about two hours, but we are happy to take as much time as you need to make sure all questions are answered.

STEP 3:  KCSS Sample Session:

All students come for a trial week of learning through Equity, Freedom & Contribution

As soon as the KC Covid Positivity Rate is steadily on the decline we will be able to do in person physically distant learning, with masks. We hope to offer some new orienting youth circle programs by the first week in January 2021.

STEP 4:  Ready to Enroll!

At the conclusion of your Enrollment Interview or soon after, we’ll invite you to enroll or we’ll tell you why we cannot offer admission.

Contact us to schedule your registration meeting to complete your enrollment. At your registration meeting, we will go over general paperwork and discuss tuition payment options. You will sign the contract and make an initial deposit.

We’ll send you the forms to be filled out before the meeting to expedite the process.

Custodial parents and all enrolling students from your family should attend the registration meeting, which usually takes no more than an hour.
